How I Made Owning a Car Affordable
When I used to think about owning a car I figured it was pretty much a pipe dream. The idea of ever being able to come up with enough money to not only buy the car but then afford it on a month-to-month basis is just something that seemed completely foreign to me. And here’s the thing, I don’t think I’m alone in that thought.
In reality there are plenty of people out there who would love to own a car, take advantage of the conveniences it offers, and just enjoy that slice of freedom. It’s amazing how often money holds people back, but the fear of the unknown often ends up being untrue. This is exactly my experience when it came to owning a car.
So if you’re like me and you figured owning a car was out of reach, then you’re going to want to read on and see how I made it possible.
Start with a Budget
My very first step was to take a look at my finances and set a realistic budget. I didn’t base this budget on the cars that caught my eye, or what was trending. Instead I was honest with myself about how much of a down payment I could save, and what I could afford as far as monthly payments went.
If you find this part hard, there’s nothing wrong with visiting your bank and speaking to a financial advisor. They can break your finances down for you and help you figure out what you can afford.
Research What’s in Your Price Range
The next step I took was to research what was available in my price range. I wanted to be sure I went into the experience as an informed consumer. I checked out online reviews, consumer review websites, and spoke with friends and family about their experiences with their particular vehicle.
Look Into Car Insurance
While people often spend a whole lot of time on the price of the car, it’s also just as important to think about car insurance. Ideally you want to find very cheap car insurance no deposit, which is exactly what I managed to do. This saved me from having to put a bunch of money up-front, and my monthly payments were very affordable.
Stick to Your Guns
Lastly I found it was really important to stick to my guns when it came to shopping, making my budget and expectations clear to the salesperson.
By following these steps I’m sure you’ll find that owning a car may be a lot more affordable than you thought.
